BONIFACE AGAIN & AGAIN

Following up on his captivating alt-pop debut ‘I Will Not Return As A Tourist’, Canadian newcomer Boniface delivers the unexpected with ‘Again & Again’. As with the first single, it’s Micah Visser’s original lyricism that is bound to catch the listener’s ear, such as the carefully paced opening line, “You were sleeping in a back yard, living off of a credit, ain’t it the way that it always go? We don’t have any money, but the money goes - somewhere.” However, unlike ‘I Will Not Return As A Tourist’, the pop element is abandoned in favour of simplified indie-folk akin to Pinegrove or deer scout. The steady strumming backs up Visser’s sincere melodies and simmering emotion that moves through topics of unemployment, moving back to your parents, destructive behaviour, following your love interest online, geographical and emotional separation and (worst of all) letting go. The uncomplicated composition of ‘Again & Again’ allows for this intricate storytelling, setting this Winnipeg talent apart. - HT
